For Hyundai’s latest car commercial, the production team sought a driving environment that looked 100% real—but also gave them the creative flexibility of virtual production. They chose Sim-Plates to provide CG driving plates designed specifically for LED stage workflows.

Create hyper-realistic driving plates that:
Match the director and DP’s creative vision down to the lighting and color tone.
Allow for seamless looping, enabling continuous takes without resets.
Stay consistent across all angles and takes to help the editor focus on performance, not continuity headaches.
Include custom story beats, like a missed highway exit, that align perfectly with the script.
Orbital Studio’s curved wall and ceiling are great for Car Process Virtual Production. Also notice the Kino Flo Mimik, which are playing back the same video plate that is on the wall.
🔧 Our Solution
1️⃣ Custom Driving Plate Design
Matt Ryan, the DP, brought Sim-Plates into the project because he knew we could customize every aspect of the video plates. For this project, we:
Added a CG highway overpass at a key moment where the script required the driver to miss an exit.
Adjusted lighting based on the Director and DP’s feedback to ensure the background would match the practical set lighting.
Designed seamless loops so the action could repeat take after take without breaks or visual glitches.
2️⃣ Technical Excellence for Virtual Production
Unlike some traditional captured driving plates, which can be unstable and show seams between clips (or stitching artifacts if pre-stitched), Sim-Plates are built specifically for LED volumes:
12K resolution plates to maintain clarity even on large LED walls.
No visible seams or artifacts, even during long, continuous camera moves.
Fully customizable color grading and timing to match editorial needs.
Sim-Plates are seamless, so you can get dynamic camera moves that would be very difficult to get with traditional plates (you would see the seams).

Our team worked directly with Orbital Studios’ tech crew to ensure the virtual production video plates performed flawlessly during the shoot.
