This page has information and download links with various formats, mainly geared towards VFX supervisors who will be using Sim-Plates in Post Production workflows (including Green Screen).

If we are creating custom plates, we can provide the render passes here and more usually.

If you are using an existing Sim-Plate from the library, we may not have all the render passes available, but can re-render them if needed.

  • H.265

This download link contains h.265 files for preview and reference.

We have an HDR pipeline and by default these are HDR, so an HDR capable monitor (like a MacBook Pro) may be required to see these files correctly.

    Specs:
    8192×4096
    10bit
    Rec709
    HLG (HDR)

  • ProRes

These ProRes files are after our team has composited and color graded.

We have an HDR pipeline and by default these are HDR, so an HDR capable monitor (like a MacBook Pro) may be required to see these files correctly.

(Three files total may still be uploading)

    Specs:
    12288×6144
    422HQ
    Rec2020
    PQ (HDR)

  • EXR Sequences

The EXR Sequences are the raw renders out of Octane Render.

You can use these to evaulate what some of the raw passes look like and these can be customized to fit your pipeline.

    12288×6144

About Download links

ProRes/h265/EXR Download Links

These samples are 12k ProRes 422HQ, Rec2020, PQ. Can be delivered in ProRes 4444 (or any flavor) if needed.

We’ve also included 8k H265 downloads, which are helpful for previewing and as reference but should not be used in production, color or compositing.

The ProRes and H265s have a small watermark on them.

Lastly we’ve included EXR sequences of the render layers and AOVs that we have available for this particular plate. We’ve included 10 seconds, the first 144 frames (of 1440) for evaluation.

You are free to use these files to test and evaluate, but are not permitted to use them commercially.

City and Cars

There are two sets of EXR sequences, one for the cars and one for the city.

This allows us to render different time periods of cars without re-rendering the entire scene, and also allows for more flexibility in compositing. Even removing a car with roto would be very simple since it’s on it’s own layer.

We do render the cars with the road, because we can get much more realistic shadows (over rendering a shadow catcher or similar comp technique).

Denoised Light Passes

We’ve included the raw exr sequences of the denoised light passes.

There is a Sunlight Pass, a Sunset Pass and Ambient Lighting Pass. These can be mixed to re-light the scene in compositing to fit your story better.

For example, you can use:
Sunlight + Ambient (set to add) to get a daylight plate.
Sunset + Ambient (set to add) to get a Sunlight plate
Ambient to get an overcast plate.

You can set the opacity lower on the ambient pass to have harsher sunlight, or do the reverse to weaken the sunlight on the scene.

Additional AOVs and Render Layers

We can render out many different render layers and AOVs as needed, for custom Sim-Plates. Including but not limited to:

  • Beauty, Diffuse, Reflection, Emission (to rebuild the image)

  • Z-Depth

  • Cryptomatte (Material, Object, etc.)

  • Position

  • Post Process effects (namely for Bloom at night-time scenes

  • Additional Lighting Passes

  • Noisy Image data

Full 360 Panoramic

By default, all Sim-Plates are fully 360 panoramic renders, usually 12288x6144 resolution, equirectangular.

We do not render the bottom 35% of the frame as it is almost never needed.

We replace the default sky with high-quality HDRis.

Opacity Pass

The opacity pass is usually used in Live Compositing (like at LED stages) to control the sky separately from the foreground or replace the sky completely.

Since the layers include alpha, it’s likely you won’t need to use this pass in compositing, but may be helpful to give to your Color team for the same reason, if color is happening after comp.

Below are examples of some of the Render Layers and AOVs that we can provide for custom work, if within the Scope of Work
