Sim-Plates Featured in American Cinematographer – April 2025
We’re excited to share that Sim-Plates was prominently featured in the April 2025 issue of American Cinematographer magazine! The article, titled “Options and Workflows for Process Plates” by Noah Kadner, appears in the Virtual World section and explores how car process scenes are evolving on LED stages through virtual production workflows.
The piece highlights Sim-Plates as a leader in the space, with a dedicated section about our 360-degree CGI driving plates and how they differ from traditional and real-time solutions. It includes:
A behind-the-scenes photo from our Hyundai commercial using Sim-Plates at Orbital Virtual Studios in Los Angeles. Matt Ryan was the DP and we’re very grateful to have worked with him on this project!

A visual collage of twelve Sim-Plates from our growing collection
And a quote from our founder, Alex Pearce, that sums up our approach:
“Because everything is pre-rendered using the Octane Render Engine, we can offer much higher image quality compared to real-time game-engine solutions, while also being more cost-effective, perfectly stabilized and customizable compared to photographic backgrounds.”
As filmmakers look for smarter, more flexible solutions for virtual car shoots, Sim-Plates is proud to provide tools that meet the moment: photoreal quality, perfect stabilization, and fast turnaround — all customizable to fit any time period, lighting condition, or traffic setup.
We’re honored to be featured and to contribute to the conversation shaping the future of virtual production.
